I’ve been asked the opposite of this question before, and i’ve said the same thing. I don’t think either pairing or romantic partner is necessarily “better”, they’re just different.
The key difference, in my opinion, is that a relationship with Ginny is much less emotionally taxing. It’s very easy for Harry to love Ginny. They’re great friends, they connect in multiple levels and they trust each other completely. There’s comfort, affection, fun, passion and warmth in their relationship. Harry doesn’t have to battle with himself to be with her. It’s comfortable and intimate in the best way, you know?
However, i’m personally much more drawn to conflict. I like it when people choose each other despite all adversities. I like it when they have work to be with each other, and i like it when they don’t give up on their relationship even when it’s hard. Draco and Harry connect as well, but their dynamic is much more difficult and gritty. They have to put in the effort to make things work and get to a stable point. They’re passionate, snarky, competitive and charged with raw emotions. They push and pull each other like no one else can! I believe that they can be an amazing couple if they can manage to make their peace with each other and their past. They have a huge potential, and i’m really interested in exploring that.
this perfectly sums up why i multiship hinny and drarry
ahh yes i love eighth year drarry so much. Also, thank you!!
All the eighth years were waiting in anticipation to find out who they would be sharing a dorm with. They had to set things up differently for them, and it was all so new and exciting, almost like being in first year all over again.
McGonagall took them to their dorm area and started reading off the pairs.
She had gotten about halfway through the list when she finally said Harry’s name.
“Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy.”
Harry stared at her incredulously. Seriously? Malfoy? She, of all people, would know that he is the last person that should be rooming with Malfoy. But she didn’t even give Harry a second glance, and just continued reading off the list.
Harry begrudgingly walked up into the room that had his and Draco’s name on the door. Malfoy was already in there with all of his things set up when he arrived.
Harry awkwardly shuffled into the room and cleared his throat, and Draco turned to look at him.
“I won’t bother you,” Draco stated, well aware of Harry’s dislike towards the situation.
Harry looked at him, surprised.
“What?”
“I know you don’t want to share a room with me. I was just telling you that I won’t bother you. I pretty much keep to myself now.”
“Oh…okay,” Harry said, not sure of how to respond.
Draco stayed true to his word, though, and never bothered, or even talked to Harry. Harry couldn’t believe that it was the same person he knew a few months ago. He was actually kind of worried about him.
“Are you okay?” He asked one day.
Draco eyed him suspiciously.
“I’m fine,” he lied.
Harry knew he wasn’t telling the truth, but thought it would be best not to push it.
“Well, if you ever, you know, need to talk to someone, I’m always here. I’ll, uh, see you in class,” Harry said and then quickly walked out the door to go to potions.
Draco was slightly in shock at the conversation they just had. He didn’t expect anyone in this school to care about him, especially not Potter. He tried not to think about it, though, and hurried to get ready for class.
Draco was the last one to arrive to potions, and saw that there was only one seat left, next to Potter and Weasley. He sat down by Harry and hoped that they wouldn’t say anything. Of course, though, things never seemed to work out for Draco anymore.
“What are you doing?” Ron asked harshly, leaning across Harry’s desk to talk to Draco.
Draco took a deep breath and turned his head to look at Ron with narrowed eyes.
“Sitting,” he said flatly.
“Well why are you sitting by us?”
“In case you failed to notice, Weasley, this is the only seat available.”
“Well we don’t want you here, Malfoy. But I guess no one would want to be by you ever since daddy was outed as You-Know-Who’s little servant.”
Draco clenched his jaw, trying to contain his anger.
“Ron, stop,” Harry said, just wanting Ron to leave Draco alone.
“No, Harry. He deserves this. So, Malfoy, how is your father these days? Has he got a nice cell in Azkaban?”
At that, Draco jumped up and swung a fist at Ron, not even bothering to grab his wand. He hit him in the jaw, and Ron was quickly out of his seat and had his wand in hand. Harry quickly got out of chair as he saw Draco about to throw another punch, and Ron about to hex him. He grabbed Draco from behind and pulled him away so Ron was out of his reach.
“That’s enough,” Harry ordered. “Ron, put your wand away.”
Ron looked annoyed, but did as Harry asked.
Draco continued to struggle in Harry’s arms, still wanting a go at Ron.
“Knock it off,” he said to Draco, pulling him even farther away from Ron.
“Let me go, Potter!” Draco fumed.
“No, hey, you need to calm down,” Harry told him softly, now slightly concerned, as Draco just seemed to be getting angrier.
“No! What I need to do is kick his arse!”
Ron snorted.
“Like you even could, Malfoy.”
“Ron! Stop antagonizing him,” Harry practically begged, fighting to keep Draco from breaking out of his grip.
At that moment, Slughorn walked into the classroom and took in the scene.
“Um, Draco isn’t feeling good, Professor. I was just taking him to the hospital wing.”
Slughorn just nodded and Harry hurried Draco out of the room and up to their dorm.
When they got there, Harry closed the door behind them and turned to Draco with a disapproving look.
“What was that?”
“He deserved it!” Draco defended.
Harry sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Yes, he probably did. But you can’t just do that, Draco!”
“And since when are you the boss of me, Potter And since when are we on a first name basis?”
Harry looked at him.
“Since you apparently need someone to monitor your actions, and since we started sharing a room,” Harry answered both questions, matter-of-factly.
“I don’t need you to monitor my actions!” Draco bellowed.
“Really? Because if I wouldn’t have stopped you, you probably would have been expelled.”
Draco plopped down on the closest bed, which happened to be Harry’s, with a huff and crossed his arms over his chest.
Harry walked over to him and Draco gave him the dirtiest look he could muster. As he noticed that the look on Harry’s face was one of concern, though, his glare faltered.
“I-I’m sorry!” He blurted out, and tears began to fall from his eyes.
Harry looked at him, shocked, and quickly knelt down in front of him.
“It’s okay. I understand that you were angry, but you have to try to refrain from acting on that anger like that,” Harry consoled.
Draco shook his head.
“He was right, Potter! What he said about my father. And me. People don’t want to be around me anymore. No one likes me. I don’t blame them. Who would want to be friends with someone like me?” Draco sobbed.
“I would,” Harry said softly.
Draco looked at him with watery, grey eyes.
“Why?”
“I always have, to some extent. But the way you acted when we were younger prevented me from doing so.”
Draco’s crying began to let up.
“I’m sorry for that, too,” he said quietly.
Harry smiled at him.
“It’s okay, Draco.”
Harry then leaned forward to wrap his arms around Draco, giving him a tight hug. Draco stiffened at the contact at first, but then relaxed into it, and rested his head on Harry’s shoulder.
“Thank you,” Draco whispered.
“Anytime,” Harry said cheerily, releasing Draco and pulling away. “You know, despite my previous feelings, I’m really happy that we’re rooming together. I have a feeling that things will be really good between us now.”
Draco smiled at him.
“Me too…Harry.”
